Doorstep by Commissioner Avramopoulos, Extraordinary Justice and Home Affairs Council 20/11/2015

Europe is standing by France in solidarity and compassion.  This meeting today in Brussels is of great importance.

First of all, let me remind you that after Charlie Hebdo I have proposed and finally the creation of the European Counter Terrorism Centre in Europol was realised.

I believe that this is a moment to make one more step forward and put the basis of the creation of a European Ιntelligence Agency. We have to base our cooperation on trust and efficiency. I, also, would like to remind you that from the very first moment the Commission anticipated and we adopted the European Agenda on Security. It is the moment for all Member States to implement it.

Today we are going also to discuss other issues, like PNR, borders controls, firearms. As I mentioned in the beginning, it is a very important meeting and I look forward to contributing on the behalf of the Commission in order to produce the best possible results.
