The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos visited the Fleet HQ at Salamis Naval Base and then continued his visit to war vessels this morning.

Mr. Avramopoulos visited also the shipbuilding sector of the Naval Base, at the premises of the Navy Logistics Command where he was briefed on the repair and maintenance works of Fleet units.

The Minister of National Defence was accompanied by the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Panagiotis Apostolakis and the Chief of the Hellenic Fleet Vice Admiral Panagiotis Litsas.

Then, he addressed a brief statement to the personnel of the Fleet HQ, stressing, among others:

D. AVRAMOPOULOS: “Frankly, I wish to thank you because all that time – no matter which rank you may have been in, from the leaders to the last sailor – I felt both your support and your confidence which allowed me during these two tenures of mine to live a nice experience and, on the other hand, to do significant achievements, many of which are related to the Hellenic Navy, which is reinforced mostly by the action mentioned by your Chief.

We worked hard to have these submarines included in the force of the Hellenic Navy and more steps are to follow in the short remaining while of time, so that you, who serve – as I ideologically say – your Homeland through the sea can feel that the government, despite the difficulties of our times, is near you and acknowledges your great work”.
