The visit of the Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos to the 4th Army Corps Area of Responsibility, in Evros prefecture, was completed.

Mr. Avramopoulos visited the headquarters of the 50th Mechanised Brigade located in Soufli, military outposts and the border bridge at “Kipoi”.

The Minister of National Defence was accompanied by the Chief of HAGS Lt Gen Christos Manolas.

Upon the completion of his visit, Mr. Avramopoulos addressed the following statement:

“My visit was scheduled a long time ago and my aim was to visit units which I had not visited the previous time and communicate directly with the personnel of the Armed Forces, as well as with our conscripts.

You know very well that Evros has a special position in our national defence system. The power of our army, the guarantee of our security, independence and of the integrity of our country is located here.

It is important, therefore, for us, apart from what takes place in Athens, to be where the heart of the Hellenic Armed Forces beats.”
