Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos today telephoned the newly elected Patriarch of Antioch, His Beatitude John X, to express his warm congratulations on his election. Mr. Avramopoulos underscored that Greece will continue to do everything in its power to support and defend the rights and security of the Greek Orthodox community of Syria. He also stressed that the new Patriarch of Antioch can count on the close cooperation and support of the Greek state in carrying out his work, particularly in these critical hours for his congregation.
