Article in “Parapolitika” newspaper titled: “The Frame-Up Has Collapsed; Democracy Demands Accountability”, 20/9/2025

The recent decision by the judiciary, which convicted two protected witnesses of perjury, is a historic and moral vindication and a full exposure of a frame-up that poisoned public life for years. The case touted as “the greatest scandal since the founding of the Greek state” proved to be the largest and darkest frame-up: a politically orchestrated plot aimed at smearing political figures and fabricating guilt where none existed, with the sole purpose of destroying them politically.

This conviction, however, is not enough. The truth cannot stop with the operatives; it must reach the masterminds and those who directed them. Behind the false testimonies stand the instigators—those who sought to weaponize the justice system to serve partisan or personal ends. And to that end, they found willing and shadowy actors within both the judiciary and politics. This is a conspiratorial practice that does not merely threaten individuals; it directly undermines the very functioning of our democratic polity.

Democracy cannot tolerate a cover-up. It cannot accept that backroom mechanisms, manipulations, and dark strategies will go unpunished. Those who designed and organized this frame-up must be held to account—not only to restore justice to those who were slandered, but also to ensure that such practices are not repeated. For impunity is not merely an injustice; it is the certainty that the same phenomenon will be reproduced.

The judiciary has taken the first decisive step. Now it is time for the political system to show courage and responsibility, to look the truth squarely in the eye and safeguard the country’s institutional order. Citizens demand answers and will not settle for a partial revelation. They want to know who the real plotters were.

The frame-up has collapsed. What remains, now that the hoods of the false witnesses have fallen, is for the masks of the masterminds to fall as well. Only then will Justice be fully restored and Democracy be fortified.
