In the context of the activation of “DEFKALION” plan, a C-130 of the Hellenic Air Force will depart for Kefallonia tonight and it will carry additional tents and staple commodities, as well as an Underwater Demolition Group who will inspect the morphology of the sea bottom close to the wharf of the port of Argostoli to ensure the safety of ships’ landfall and sailing into the port.
The Tank Landing Ship “IKARIA” will also sail off tonight carrying 1 Engineer light machine, 1 push dozer, 1 loader, 1 trencher excavator, 1 dumper, 1 machinery carrying trailer, 1 self-activating light tower, 1 Power generator, 1 Mercedes jeep 290 GD, 1 general purpose vehicle Steyer, from the 747 Special Engineer Battalion, as well as
2 vehicles of general purpose with field kitchen and additional tents to be used for the kitchen to deploy and for the personnel to reside, 2 water tank trucks, 2 MAGIRUS vehicles with 15 chemical toilets, 1 jeep TERRANO, 1 4500-litre tank truck, 1 contact team vehicle (Communication), from the Higher Military Command of Army Support.
Personnel, assets and material of the Armed Forces which were sent at noon with two transportation aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force and the helicopter of the Hellenic Army have already arrived at Lixouri.
By decision of the Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos “DEFKALION” plan will remain in force until the emergency situation is lifted.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is being constantly informed by the Minister of National Defence.
