The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos visited today the Underwater Demolition Command HQ in Skaramangas, where he awarded certificates to the graduates of the 178th School of Underwater Demolition Teams.
The certificate award ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Shipping and the Aegean Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, the Deputy Minister of National defence Thanassis Davakis, the Government Secretary General Panayiotis Baltakos and the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Vice Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN.
Mr. Avramopoulos, addressing the personnel of the Underwater Demolition Command, underlined – among others-:
“… I wish that the times will never require that our children prove in practice what they have been trained for. We will see after that. However, if that may arise, we are all certain that the oath they have taken, the training they have received and, above all, their force within their souls are the shield protecting our country and its integrity, but also Democracy itself, which has been conquered by the Hellenic people with so many sacrifices…
… Here, in the heart of the Armed Forces, the heart of another Greece is beating; Greece of duty, honour and principles that, combined with the spirit which is the greatest weapon possessed by these elite forces, is the guarantee for our country and for Democracy”.
