As far as Europe is concerned, more solidarity must be shown among Member States; solidarity towards all these desperate people who have come to our shores. But also responsibility.
Solidarity is not only a moral value, it is a legal principle very clearly stipulated in the Treaties of the EU. So we must enhance and foster even more solidarity among us.
The European Commission took the lead from the very beginning. Before, there was no migration policy in Europe. After the new Commission took over, in a period of seven months we managed to adopt the European Agenda on Migration. Now, we are at the stage of implementing this Migration Agenda.
The Commission did its job. Now it is up to the Member States to take their share of responsibility.
