The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos and the Alternate Minister of National Defence Fofi Gennimata attended the signing of Strategic Cooperation Agreements by the Hellenic Defence Systems (HDS) with Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin. The Agreements’ signing ceremonies took place successively at the Conference Room of the Ministry of National Defence.
The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos made the following statement regarding the accident which took place today in the firing range of Glafyra, Magnesia prefecture, at noon, while entering the Hellenic Parliament for the scheduled briefing of the Committee of Institutions and Transparency:
“We are shocked from this accident. Three brave young men were lost while on duty. Apart from our deep sorrow, at this time we stand by their families.
At the presence of the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos officially named the new Submarine of the Hellenic Navy “PIPINOS”. The launching and naming ceremony of the submarine was held at the premises of the Hellenic Shipyards, in Skaramagkas. The ceremony was officiated by His Beautitude the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Hieronymos.
At the presence of the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos, the final phase of the Field Exercise “PARMENION 2014” took place on “AETOS” Exercise Field, in Evros prefecture.
The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos’ completed his official visit to Cyprus, where he represented Greece to the celebration for the 54th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Republic of Cyprus.
