Following an invitation by the Chief Executive Claude France Αrnould and in continuation of the regular meetings between the Ministry of National Defence and the European Defence Agency, the Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos visited the headquarters of the Agency in Brussels on Wednesday, September 10, 2014.
After the actions of the projects implemented by the Agency were presented, Mr. Avramopoulos praised the role and the significance of the EDA and he referred also to the need of supporting it further. Special emphasis was given to the perspective of the Agency resuming a coordinative role and contributing to the actions for the promotion of defence industry through Small and Medium sized Entreprises. There are positive perspectives for the expansion of the themes of the projects implemented by the Agency, of the participation of member-states in developing and implementing projects, as well as in the development and utilization of double nature projects.
Mr. Avramopoulos also met with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, the Chairman of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Gianni Pitella, the Chairman of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament Claude Moraes, as well as with other EU officials.
