The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos attended the Blessing of Waters in the Port of Meghisti Island, accompanied by the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis  and the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Michail Kostarakos.

Afterwards, Mr. Avramopoulos visited the military camp “Sergeant Savvas Nikolaou”, the guardposts of the islands Stronghili and Ro, and he laid wreath in honour of the “Lady of Ro” Despoina Achladioti.

After the completion of his visit, the Minister of National defence made the following statement:

“We celebrated today the feast of the Epiphany here in Kastelorizo, a borderline site characterised by supreme national, patriotic and traditional symbolisms.

Nowadays, Hellenism celebrates the day of light. And light has a higher, important, noble symbolism. It represents transparency, honesty, truth; the principles upon which the course of Greeks is based, during these hard times.

In the end, the hopeful light of a new, optimistic future will shine for our country. This is what we wish for; this is what we are struggling for”.
