Defence Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos’ statement after the memorial service to the memory of the fallen of the Naval Aviation and of the officers fallen at Imia

The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos attended today the memorial service held at the Hellenic Command Helicopters, Kotroni, Marathon, in the memory of the fallen soldiers of the Naval Aviation and of the officers fallen at Imia, Panagiotis Vlachakos, Christodoulos Karathanasis and Ectoras Yalopsos, on January 31, 1996. 

After the ceremony was completed, Mr. Avramopoulos laid a wreath to the monument of the fallen soldiers of the Naval Αviation and addressed the following statement:

 “We stand with honour, respect and gratitude to the memory of the soldiers of the Hellenic Navy who send a message of permanent self-denial and dedication to the country.

The Armed Forces, proud of our heroes, keep their remembrance in their memory and heart and they pay homage to them, reminding to everybody that their sacrifice is an paradigm for every soldier towards his supreme duty to the country.”

The service was also attended by the Alternate Minister of National Defence Fofi Gennimata, the Chief of HNDGS General Michail Kostarakos, the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Athanasios Tselios, the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Εvangelos Apostolakis and the Chief of HAFGS Evangelos Tournas, general and senior officers of the Hellenic Navy, as well as relatives of the fallen.
