Defence Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos will attend the informal meeting of EU Defence Ministers

The Minister of National Defence, Dimitris Avramopoulos will depart tomorrow for Vilnius, Lithuania, to attend the informal meeting of EU Ministers for Defence.<--break->Key issues in the agenda of the meeting, which will be preparatory to next December’s meeting, will be to consider policies that may raise the effectiveness of the Common Security and Defence Policy and reinforce the military capabilities as a means of achieving this effectiveness. The informal meeting will also discuss potential ways of enhancing the European Defence Industry.

Mr. Avramopoulos will brief his European counterparts on the priorities set by the Ministry of National Defence with a view to the Greek Presidency, as well as on the issues of the next informal meeting of EU Ministers of Defence, which are decided in cooperation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton.

The next informal meeting of EU Ministers of Defence will be held in Athens on February 21-22 2014.
