Doorstep by Commissioner Avramopoulos at the Informal Justice and Home Affairs Council, Bratislava 7/7/2016

European Border and Coast Guard is now a reality which proves that if we work together in a spirit of solidarity we can produce results like this. There are voices that Europe is divided, no, Europe is united. JAI will be another chance to enhance and deepen more our cooperation. With EP decision of yesterday we enhanced even more the protection of our borders, internally and externally. Today we shall turn towards third countries and work in the field of readmission and returns which is very, very important. Next week I will present the package in order to improve our Common Asylum Policy. The ones in need of international protection will have it; those who are not eligible will have to be returned. I am sure that the Slovakia Presidency will be one more step towards our common goal, to better protect Europe and to implement a comprehensive policy on migration and refugee crisis.

Q: Europe is divided on distribution and relocation?

We have a tangible result of our cooperation and we shall keep working on that. Europe’s future is assured, I can tell you that.
