Foreign Minister Avramopoulos’ statement on the passing of journalist Dimitris Kastanas

“It was with great sorrow that I learned of the loss of my good friend and good Greek Dimitris Kastanas, who for forty years, through his broadcasts and writings, gave a voice to Hellenism in America, also bringing the American public into contact with the “image of a Greece that made us all proud with its history and culture,” as he was fond of saying.

His passing is a great loss for Global Hellenism, which he served with passion and dedication through the first global private Greek television station, which he himself founded, recording in a direct, sincere, personal and intensely first-hand manner the odyssey of Greek Americans and what they achieved as they built dynamic, successful communities in every corner of their new homeland.

To his dear wife Nomiki and his children, I express deep condolences and heartfelt support in these difficult hours.”
