Foreign Ministry announcement regarding the arrest of three Greek nationals in occupied Cyprus

The Foreign Ministry has confirmed, through the UN mission in Cyprus, that three Greek citizens are being detained illegally in occupied Cyprus, on the charge that they entered the neutral zone in Cyprus without a permit.

On the instructions of Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Greek Embassy in Nicosia notified the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Cyprus, which in turn contacted the UN Peacekeeping Force, requesting the immediate release of the Greek citizens.

The Greek Ambassador to Nicosia, V. Papaioannou, also contacted the head of the UN Mission, Lisa Buttenheim, requesting the immediate release of the Greek citizens.

The Foreign Ministry is monitoring the development of the case.
