General Support Ship PROMETHEUS and Tank Landing Ship CHIOS sailing to Kefallonia

Following an order by the Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos and in reply to a request by the Mayor of Kefallonia Alexandros Parisis, today morning the General Support Ship “PROMETHEUS” sailed off the Naval Dock of Salamis heading to Kefallonia. It carries staple commodities to relief the earthquake victims, as well as pharmaceutical and hygienic material.

Later today, the Tank Landing Ship “CHIOS” which has the capability of providing accommodation to approximately 250 persons will sail off to Kefallonia. It will also carry staple commodities.

On board the GSS “PROMETHEUS” sails also a group of doctors of the Hellenic Navy assisted by the telemedicine system “PHILIPPOS” which is implemented through the satellite communications of the ship.

The GSS “PROMETHEUS” has a medical unit fully equipped with a surgery, an intensive care unit, patients’ room, a radiological-microbiological laboratory and a dental surgery.

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras was also informed about the two ship sailing to Kefallonia early morning.
