At the Delphi Economic Forum, in a discussion with Professor Athanasios (Thanasis) Platias on the topic: “The Geopolitics of Maritime Security: Managing Volatility.”
From the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Magellan, maritime security touches every facet of the international system and has long been a key touchstone in international relations.
Today, however, the confidence and safety that once characterized maritime transport have given way to great-power geopolitical rivalries and an arc of instability across the seas.
Within this context, Europe must place greater emphasis on deeper integration in order to preserve the achievements of the past seventy years. It is the only viable and politically credible course—one that national leaderships must heed.
