NATO Defence Ministers’ Meeting, Brussels

The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos will depart for Brussels to participate in the Defence Ministers’ Meeting of NATO state-members (October 22-23, 2013). The meeting is expected to make important decisions about the future of the Alliance with regard to next year’s Summit.

NATO Defence Ministers will discuss the progress in developing the alliance’s capabilities, while they will also consider new suggestions of multilateral cooperation in the context of the “Smart Defence” initiative. They will also discuss the situation in Afghanistan and Libya.

 Mr. Avramopoulos will also participate in the NATO-Russia Council’s meeting at a ministerial level which will be also attended by Russia’s Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu. In the context of the Meeting, the Minister of National Defence will also have multilateral meetings with his counterparts.
