Official visit of Commissioner Avramopoulos to Cyprus

Dimitris Avramopoulos, Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, presented today in Cyprus the European Agenda on Migration.

Mr Avramopoulos met with President Nicos Anastasiades and discussed the initiatives taken by the European Commission to deal with the issue of migration.  On his part, Mr Anastasiades briefed Commissioner Avramopoulos on the latest developments on the Cyprus problem, in view of the resumption of intercommunal talks.

Mr Avramopoulos also had meetings with Ionas Nicolaou, Minister of Justice and Public Order and with Socratis Hasicos, Minister of Interior.

Commissioner Avramopoulos visited the House of Representatives and met with Yiannakis Omirou, Speaker of the House. He then addressed the Plenary of the House and presented the new European Agenda on Migration. 

Regarding Cyprus, Mr Avramopoulos thanked the Cypriot authorities for their cooperation and said that during the period 2014-2020, the Republic of Cyprus will receive from the Commission more than 32 million euro for implementing actions relating to asylum, immigration and integration and more than 42 million euro from the “Internal Security Fund” (ISF) for border management and police cooperation.
