Behind a country’s political leadership stand public servants who work with consistency and effectiveness. Among them, a figure who helped shape the architecture of Greece’s entry into the European Union at the side of Konstantinos Karamanlis: Angelos Zacharopoulos, who later became the first to serve as a Director-General in the then European Economic Community (EEC).
Yesterday, with joy and honor, we presented his sixth book, this time dedicated to his birthplace—the beautiful mountains of Agrafa—where his distinguished path began, and where he also lived through the dramatic pages of the civil war.
Today, at ninety-three and still vigorous, Angelos Zacharopoulos shares his own experiences and a powerful message with modern Greeks: love of country, and never again division.
