Statement by Dimitris Avramopoulos on the passing of Kostas Pylarinos, 27/8/2025

Today we bid farewell—with respect, recognition, and honor—to Kostas Pylarinos, a distinguished figure of public life who left his own mark on politics, administration, culture, and society.

With consistency, integrity, and administrative competence, he served the country from key positions of responsibility in the Hellenic Parliament, in public administration, in culture, and in the Church. He was a close associate of Konstantinos Karamanlis, Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, and Konstantinos Mitsotakis, contributing substantially to shaping modern Greece in the post-1974 Metapolitefsi era.

Thessaloniki and Macedonia honored him for his service, and his name will remain inextricably linked with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, the city’s metro system, and the Macedonian Press Agency—projects through which he left an indelible imprint on our country’s cultural and institutional landscape.

The memory of Kostas Pylarinos will endure as an example of service and selfless dedication to the public interest.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.

Dimitris Avramopoulos
