It is with great sorrow that I say farewell today to my close friend and associate Aris Stathakis, an important personality of journalism and local government who served his office and the city of Athens – his contribution to road traffic safety was exceptional – as municipal counsellor and vice mayor, with devotion for decades.
Aris, my good friend and close associate was loved and honoured by the citizens and everybody he cooperated with and he was one of the main associates of my tenure as mayor from 1994 to 2002, contributing with his knowledge, his experience and his composition skills to that creative time that changed Athens.
I will always remember him standing at my side over those years and I feel respect, honour and acknowledgement of his contribution.
I express my sympathy and my warm condolences to his family.
